Until the eighties, dilated cardiomyopathy was one of the most common heart diseases in domestic cats. Then a research group led by Paul Pion discovered the reason: a deficiency of Taurine<\/strong> in the cat food of the time.<\/p>\n The manufacturers reacted, taurine became a mandatory ingredient \u2013 and the disease became rare in cats.<\/p>\n This story is the best introduction to this product for two reasons. First, it shows how directly a cat's diet is connected to its heart muscle. Second, it explains why we do not treat taurine as a side ingredient.<\/p>\n Dogs and humans can produce taurine themselves from two amino acids. Cats can hardly do this \u2013 they largely lack the necessary enzymes. In addition, they constantly lose taurine through their bile acids.<\/p>\n For the cat, taurine is therefore essential: it has to come from outside, every day. A good complete food covers the basic requirement. An additional supply is a sensible buffer for older animals, for home-cooked feeding or in phases of strain.<\/p>\n The first formula of this product contained almost twice the amount of fish and algae oil. We reduced the amount considerably in version 3.0.<\/p>\n The reason: in the scientific literature, effects on blood clotting and heart rhythm are discussed in cats at high omega-3 amounts.
